RECAP: Holiday Wreath Workshop

It was a wintery, overcast December weekend, perfect for cozy holiday activities and wine with our favorite San Jose Winery- Coterie of course! After a colorful summer filled with hanging, drying, and packing (thanks to reused squash boxes), the Spade & Plow flower crew was thrilled to be able to share our first ever dried flowers with the community. As you look at your neighbor’s holiday lights this winter, be sure to take a closer peak at their front door and see if you notice any colorful wreaths!

“When you start with quality products, it’s easy to make something beautiful,” says Coterie Winery owner Kyle Loudon. Though Kyle was referring to the wreaths crafted in his winery over the weekend, the S&P friends who joined in the workshop easily agree that the same philosophy applies for Coterie’s amazing wines. Nestled in between heaping piles of dried flowers, workshop attendees found space to put their wine tasting glasses. Amidst the creative thrill, we were surprised to walk away with all glasses unbroken!

We’re grateful for the space that Coterie provided for our winter workshop. After creating one of the most colorful messes that the winery has seen since grape harvest season, farm staff came to clean up the floor of flowers. Farmer Sam said, “We’ve never done a wreath workshop before but we sure are experienced at speedily packing up our compost and folding tables!”

Every workshop attendant got to walk away with a beautiful one-of-a kind creation to display year after year. And just as wine tastes better with age, each winter that these wreaths are displayed on doorposts around the bay, they’ll hold more and more sweet holiday memories.
