A Thanksgiving Note

Howdy!

Whew! What a whirlwind of a week. And year. We'd like to take a moment to thank you, our sweet CSA members.

While 2020 has been a challenging year, we are forever grateful for the abundance of support we have received from our community.

You may recall that in the midst of a shelter in place order back in March, sign ups for Spade & Plow's CSA program jumped overnight!

This big leap, though exciting in many ways, was also terrifying.  One of our leases fell through in early April (another story for another day), and our farm operations were compromised to a much smaller parcel of land. Here we were with 150% more membership and 75% less land. How would we do it? With a lot of hustle, grit, and long hours, we chose to give it our all.

As many of us have in our own corners and in our own ways, we dug deep. Like, artichoke-root-deep, deep. The team choked it up (puns for the win, always), rolled up their sleeves, and got to work. Through streamlining processes and procedures, to upping our communication game, to highlighting and encouraging an array of diverse and valuable strengths, the Spade & Plow crew is stronger than ever. As the saying goes, “Teamwork truly makes the dream work.”

Don't get us wrong, we've still got a long way to go. But we are encouraged by what year FIVE has taught this growing little farm, grounded in community.

We are grateful to have fostered solid partnerships with incredible organizations doing so much good. Through the leadership and facilitation of Fresh Approach and Veggielution, we've had the privilege to help distribute organic veggies to low income communities most effected by the pandemic. As we continue to grow and learn from this year, Spade & Plow's mission becomes evermore significant and evermore palpable: to feed every corner of Santa Clara County, in a way that bolsters local businesses and organizations. We're humbled by what we are all creating together. It takes a village. Thank you for being a part of it!

In this season, may you find solace in the activities and things you hold dear. May you serve in a way that fills you up, and holds others to inspired heights. And may you cherish the people, places, seeds, and fruits of a life well-seasoned and well-lived.

Thank you again, for all your support!
