All winter long, we were planning out which seed varieties to plant for the following year. By early spring we were getting a head start on tomatoes in our greenhouse by keeping the plants warm with heating mats and lots of love.

It was definitely a struggle to keep these little ones alive and well despite the erratic winter weather. Come March they were in the ground, and by July our tomato harvest was in full swing.

The whole process takes a lot of patience, but when the time is right and these tomatoes approach to indulgent, sweet, ripeness, the excitement is pretty difficult to contain.

While it is lovely to enjoy the fruits of our labor, tomatoes take a lot of time from our labor department. From sowing to growing, these juicy fruits need more preparation.

You know when you do something that is strenuous and difficult, and later realize there is an easier way? So then you think, I am not going that route again! Well Sam and Nick had their battle with grounding the large wood stakes that are used to prop the tomato plants up. Can you believe that they are all done by hand? Well not anymore! By using a post-pounder (innovated by Nick and Sam) the stakes can be put into the ground in a quarter of the time.

Now that tomato season is in full swing, we’re planning out the next varieties we want to grow next year! We would love to hear from our community to what they would like to see next tomato season!
