Field Notes: Thanksgiving Week Preparations and Onion Planting

Now that’s a lot of onions...

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we’ve been planning out the details for next week to a tee!

Despite all of our CSA boxes planned to be delivered on one day, were confident that our farm crew will help us make next weeks deliveries run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. For that, we are so grateful.

All the while, the farming side of things keeps on keepin’ on! Last week we finally got our onions in the ground. It took us much longer to plant them this year than last year because we are trying something new this year. Instead of planting the onion seeds directly into the soil in our fields, we are starting them off in seed trays where then can get a little extra attention and care in their early seedling stages. Our hope is that these changes will yield larger and more onions for next year.

Can you guess how many onion seedlings were planted last week? Not 1,000...Not 10,000, But 24,000 onions! Now that’s a lot of onions...
