The Wheels Keep Turning

Signs of spring. Onions making their way to markets and CSA.

Signs of spring. Onions making their way to markets and CSA.

Howdy, folks!

As farmers, we’ve become accustomed to riding the waves (err, shapely soil beds) of nature. Embracing the ebbs and flows of weather, season, and market trends are undoubtedly what keep us on our toes and make us resilient farmers. Change truly is the only constant, and an important reminder when addressing novel situations.

In light of the recent measures taken around COVID-19, we are confidently here to tell you that nothing major is changing. The health and well being of our community members and employees is paramount. So long as everyone on our staff is healthy and thriving, we will continue to serve you in the same capacity we have been; home delivery, site pick-up, and many farmers markets* remain operable.

Our team continues to wash hands and wear protective glovewear when handling produce. Those staff that are feeling ill will not to come to work, with preventative measures in food handling properly addressed. How great to think the few number of hands that touch the food we grow, versus what is handled at the grocery store.

If you, too, are feeling ill, we eagerly advise against your attendance at the farmers market or at pick-up sites. Be mindful of how you shop for your produce at the market: practice responsible social distancing and only take what’s on top! Bringing your own bags is encouraged, as always. Thank you for doing right by the environment and your community. Though we grow organically and dunk, wash, and hydrocool most all of our produce, give things a thorough wash before using.

A few things to be aware of moving forward:

  • Effective Monday March 16th, we will suspend the reuse of CSA boxes. We LOVE that you’re on board to reuse before recycling, but as a preventative measure, we ask that you recycle your own boxes at home.

  • We do not anticipate any of our ancillary farm partners to slow or cease operations, but we must be receptive that this is a delicate time for small businesses. We support our partners decisions to cease operations for health or financial reasons, if need be. All CSA add-ons are a-go for now. Yeehaw!

  • *Farmers Market low-down:

    • Cabrillo College Farmers Market will operate normally on Saturday March 14th, but ALL MBCFM markets will be closed at least through the end of March.

    • Our PCFMA Saturday San Mateo market will be closed until further notice.

    • CFMA markets will remain open until further notice, including our Saturday Morgan Hill and Sunday Mountain View markets.

    • Urban Village markets will remain open until further notice, including our Sunday Campbell market.

For your friends and family members who are high risk or have loved ones with compromised immunities, we are here to support.

Coupon code: 020 offers $20 off a first box of produce when you sign up this month.

Available for home delivery or at a pick up site.

As this is a vulnerable time for our community and beyond, we trust in the power of local food systems to bolster the local economy and our immunities! Eating well, taking rest, soaking up some sun, and digging in organic dirt are antidotes for strong and resilient minds and bodies. We are ever-grateful for your support and flexibility as things evolve. Our goal as a business is to continuously grow, whether metaphorically or physically or, quite literally, your food. Our duty as a farm is to ensure that you are fed, and that food is available for you to nourish your bellies and the connections that we share with one another. The wheels keep turning, we take it all one transplant at a time.

Wishing you well, folks!

In health,
