Celebrating Ten Years
[RUBS EYES, BLINKS] We are still here!
There are so many times where we were ready to throw in the towel.
Where the days were long, and transitions even longer.
Where the mental and emotional tax of running a business was even more stressful than the physical fatigue of running a farm.
It is impossible to sum the number of mechanical hiccups and crop failures.
The number of seeds sown that never germinated.
The number of ground squirrels chased, and the number of lettuce nubs left behind.
The countless printer jams, potatoes washed, and cherry tomatoes sorted.
We’ve lifted an incalcuable number of pounds of produce, schlepped countless bins into and out of a van.
Wrung out an impossible number of soggy socks.
We have also
Met hoards of kind folks at the farmers market.
Delivered boxes to some of the most generous folks in Santa Clara County.
Exchanged beaucoups of recipes and preparations for soups, salads, and more.
Spent many a summer’s eve chasing the sunset, collecting hope and one more bucket of flowers.
Made plans in the winter that miraculously came to fruition the following spring.
We have been witness to the strength, steadfastness, and sacredness of an incredibly compassionate and capable crew.
The nightly corralling of chickens into their coops: a valuable reminder of the necessity of rest.
Sticky, sloppy mud: a reminder of the transformative power of the sun.
Need we mention the mystery of what lies beneath each bed and furrow? Every earthworm, every resilient weed.
We dance to the beat each of each season’s rhythm, and absorb each lesson with as much humility as we can muster.
We’re ten years into the hustle and determintation it takes to keep the tractor tires rolling.
What a gift. What gratitude.
Thanks for seeing us through to the next ten!
